Working with other CCGs in Surrey, North East Hampshire and Farnham and Hounslow, we have reviewed non-urgent NHS Patient Transport Services, with NHS North West Surrey CCG acting as the lead commissioner for the new Patient Transport Services contract, which commenced in April 2017.
Together, we undertook a full review of service delivery, including input from patient groups to ensure the new service provider meets the needs of local people and will improve the patient's experience going forward. You can read more about this process here. We believe the result of this project is an improved service that will better address the varying demands placed on PTS.
Non-urgent Patient Transport Services provide routine, pre-planned transport for patients who need to attend hospital, medical centres and outpatient appointments and cannot make their own way there due to recognised medical conditions which fulfil specific eligibility criteria.
They also provide pre-planned transport for patients who require clinically trained staff to transport them because of their medical requirements.
If you believe you are eligible for patient transport, you or your health professional will need to make your booking with the service provider, South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SCAS).
